Wafco Mills Trash Enclosure Project and Structural Repairs Update

Hello Wafco Mills Owners,

This post provides an update on the progress of the trash enclosure project and the continuation of structural repairs, which will both be handled by Grandeur USA.

Grandeur USA Returning in February 2025

We are pleased to announce that Grandeur USA will be returning to our community in February 2025 to resume work. Their initial focus will be on completing the much-anticipated trash enclosure project.

Trash Enclosure Project

As you know, the need for a trash enclosure has been a long-standing issue, and we've been working diligently to develop a solution.

The enclosure will be located at the end of Walker Avenue, on Wafco Mills property

The City of Greensboro has granted a variance to the utility easement to allow for this structure on our private property. The address for the dumpster and enclosure is 621-T Walker Avenue.

The structure will be large enough to house two dumpsters but cans will be used until dumpsters are deemed necessiary. The enclosure will be locked to restrict use to Wafco Mills residents only.

The design has been carefully considered to be aesthetically pleasing and consistent with the community's architecture. The final design includes brick columns on pier footings and wood slats for the enclosure walls. There will also be an arch on the commercial entry doors.

The project has required collaboration with the City of Greensboro Waste Management, Permitting, and Zoning Departments.

This project has involved multiple evaluations and modifications to ensure that it is suitable for the site, and that it complies with the Historic College Hill district guidelines and a large amount of volunteer hours have been required to get here.

The structure is designed to allow for garbage trucks to access the dumpsters safely and efficiently.

The enclosure will include motion-activated lighting and may be monitored by cameras. There is also discussion about mounting a solar-powered camera outside of building 620 to stream video to the front public facing website page but we would need a wifi signal close enough to connect to.

Once the trash enclosure project is complete, Wafco Mills will be able to control the cost of solid waste handling within our budget.

The City of Greensboro will provide weekly pickup. The contract is for two dumpster pickups per week and the monthly collection fee is $438

Structural Repairs

Following completion of the trash enclosure, Grandeur USA will resume the remaining structural repairs, which include:

Repairing and replacing steps

Repairing and replacing stoops

Repairing and replacing retaining walls

These repairs will be along McGee and Fulton Streets.
