Downtown Greenway Update: Western Branch Progress & Public Input

Exciting progress is happening just steps from Wafco Mills as work continues on the Western Branch of the Downtown Greenway. This section, stretching from Smith Street to Spring Garden Street and connecting to Morehead Park, is nearing completion with paving, grading, and structural work well underway.

Recent updates from the Greenway project team include:

  • Full paving of the section from Smith Street to Spring Garden Street

  • Installation of the mast arm and new pavement markings at West Market Street

  • Concrete pads poured for benches and other site furnishings

  • Gabion basket work under Friendly Avenue nearly finished

  • Fence removal along Guilford Avenue to allow for proper installation

  • Final grading and cleanup, including a sidewalk connection to Hunt Street

  • Morehead Park resurfaced with new asphalt

Upcoming Public Meeting

The community is invited to a public meeting on Monday, October 6th, from 5:00–6:30 PM at the Sternberger Center in Greensboro College’s Jones Library. The HARP design team will present the landscaping plan for the Western Branch and gather community feedback.
