Have you explored the Downtown Greenway yet?

Our community is very lucky to have immediate access to one of Greensboro’s major projects, the Downtown Greenway! Recently, the city extended the Western Branch, thus completing the loop right beside Wafco Mills. Although some facets of this branch are still under construction, the trail is paved and ready to be traveled on.

Our own little section of the Greenway stretches from W Market St (running through the space in between Greensboro College and Weaver Academy), crosses W McGee St and continues alongside S Cedar St (behind the Historic Wafco Mills building and the 622/620 Walker Ave buildings of Wafco Mills), crosses Spring Garden St, and extends beyond that all the way to W Gate City Blvd. From there, the Greenway makes a 4-mile loop around the city.

The Downtown Greenway even joins up with the Southeast Greenway (running alongside Freeman Mill Rd), the Latham Park and Lake Daniel Park Greenways (at the intersection of W Smith St and Hill St), and will eventually connect with the Atlantic-Yadkin Greenway (at the intersection of W Smith St and Hill St) after future extensions are built along Battleground Ave.

Check out https://downtowngreenway.org for the Greenway’s official website, including a map, history, and amenities you can find along the route.

On May 16 2026, the city will host its official grand opening event for the Greenway located at 504 Guilford Ave (near Demeter Wine Store and Westerwood Tavern).

Enjoy this relaxing recording of the greenway, taken by GoPro on my bike on a Saturday morning in April. Certain parts of the video may change as the sights along the greenway are updated and construction is completed, so check in regularly! Link to YouTube video.
