Dumpsters Are In!
The Wafco Mills Board of Directors and Seth Geise from Priestley Management have successfully worked with Eric Elay of the City of Greensboro to implement the two new dumpsters in the trash enclosure! We want to thank all owners and residents for their patience while we worked on this, and we’d also like to thank all who joined the membership meeting and asked questions and gave comments. Your voices mean everything to this community!
Responsible Dumpster Use for All Residents:
This is a gentle reminder to use the dumpsters responsibly.
Never leave loose trash or trash bags outside of the dumpsters. This will result in a violation warning, and potentially a fine.
Break down large cardboard boxes in order that they fit into the dumpster doors and take up less space within.
If you have bulk items that don’t fit into the dumpsters such as furniture, please transport those items to the nearest drop-off location such as the White Street Landfill at 2503 White Street, Greensboro NC 27405. If you leave bulk items at the enclosure and they block the main front gates, the city will not pick up trash until the next pick-up day, if the items are removed.
“White goods” (such as large appliances) go to Guilford County Scrap Tire & White Goods Collection Facility at 2138 Bishop Road, Greensboro, NC 27406. Items like these include Stoves, Stovetops, Ovens, Washers, Dryers, Refrigerators, Water Heaters, Water Coolers, Freezers, Air Conditioners, Furnaces, Dishwashers, Microwaves, Range Hoods, Lawn Mowers (with all fluids removed), Charcoal Grills and Gas Grills (no fuel canisters), and Treadmills. Visit this site to learn more about the proper disposal of these items.
Do not dispose of hazardous waste (such as paint buckets or cans) in the dumpsters or place them outside of the dumpsters within the trash enclosure – the city will not pick them up. Please transport them to the nearest drop-off location such as ECOFLO at 2750 Patterson St, Greensboro NC 27407.
The trash enclosure and dumpsters within are for use by the residents of Wafco Mills only. If you see any improper activity or a non-resident’s use of the enclosure, please report it to your unit’s owner or property manager, who will then report it to the HOA Board of Directors.
As always, please remember that leaving trash or trash bags on your property (porch, balcony, parking pad, deck, etc.) will result in a warning, which will increase to a fine if not taken care of in a timely manner.
Download the GSO Collects app or regularly visit the GSO Collects website for the pickup schedule, information on which items go where, and more.
City Water Bill for Owners:
Your next individual City water bill should no longer have the Solid Waste Charge as a line item, and you should be receiving a statement from Priestley Management’s office noting the new charge that you can pay online or via check. If these items aren’t in place by the next Homeowner Dues or Water billing cycle, please contact Seth Geise so that he may remedy this. If there are any kinks in the process, they should all be fixed by next month – thank you in advance for you patience!
Sliding Doors
Please close the sliding doors on either side of each dumpster after you've deposited your things – please especially make sure that you close these doors before pickup day. If the doors are open on pickup day, any loose items will fall from them, and the collectors will not get out of the vehicle to clean it up. Wafco Mill's pickup days are traditionally Fridays around 9:00 am, but the collectors have been coming on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as a courtesy (their pickup days also change around holidays). Please make sure to close the sliding doors every time you use the enclosure, so that regardless of the day the collectors come, no loose trash will fall from the openings.
Currently, one of the sliding doors to the recycling can is damaged, so it is okay to leave open until the city comes out and fixes the problem. We expect this to be handled next week.
Front Gates
The collectors will also not close the front gates after finishing pickup. We understand that this is a bit of an inconvenience as we do not want anyone outside of Wafco Mills residents using our enclosure. The collectors were able to close the gates when we were using carts because they needed to get out to individually dump the carts, and were closing the gates while they were outside of their vehicle as a courtesy. However, their strict protocol is to not leave the vehicle once they have opened the gates, so they will not close the gates behind them.
All of the members of the board work full-time jobs or are not full-time residents at Wafco, but I will personally do my best to be available the mornings of pickup so that I can close the gates after the collectors. Residents, if you see the gates open, please close them if you are able – the board and the community thanks you greatly for your help!
Pedestrian Door
Please continue to keep the pedestrian door on the left side of the enclosure propped open. In case we have any issues with the pedestrian door being closed and locked, we are going to create and share two codes for the membership (owners) only that are not to be shared with tenants unless they specifically reach out with issues about the door being locked. The board will keep these codes in circulation unless/until there are more problems with improper enclosure use, then we may decide to generate new codes.
If the door is locked and you haven’t received the code in a timely manner, you may open the front main gates to access the enclosure – please be reminded to re-open the pedestrian door from the inside and leave it propped open, and to close the main front gates behind you. Do not leave your trash bags outside of the enclosure if this problem occurs.
One last reminder:
Now that the dumpsters are in place, we hope that the issue of loose debris around the property will lessen. Please do your part in helping keep our community clean by picking up trash that you have accidentally dropped.
Please also remember to (and remind your tenants to) pick up after your dogs’ waste in the common areas – it poses an inconvenience to our residents and also to our landscapers.
