Trash Enclosure: News, Updates & Reminders

Our Board of Directors has exciting and important updates for the community involving our new Trash Enclosure at the end of Walker Ave.

The enclosure is officially completed by our contractors from Grandeur USA, and ready for use as of November 15th! We appreciate all who have already been utilizing the enclosure, keeping it tidy, and placing trash and recyclables correctly in their respective containers.

Plans for future upgrades

    1. Dumpsters: We recognize that the current setup with bins in the enclosure is not ideal. Our goal is to replace the bins with two large dumpsters – one for trash and one for recycling.

    2. Bulk Trash Pickup: We are exploring better solutions for bulk trash pickup. For now: please take your large items to the White Street Landfill at 2503 White Street, Greensboro, NC 27405. Dumping items on the property or in common areas is prohibited and subject to fines.

    3. Bins in Parking Spaces at 104 Wafco/626 Walker: We will eventually be removing these bins once a decision on dumpsters and bulk trash services has been put into place. PLEASE use these cans ONLY AS BACKUP options if the enclosure bins are full, if you have accidentally been locked out of the pedestrian door, or if other accessibility issues arise.

    4. Lighting: The board is working on a lighting solution that incorporates motion activation and ample visibility outside and inside the enclosure. The current lights are a great temporary solution but have been failing during extreme weather conditions such as the freezing temperatures we have been having.

    5. Dog Waste Station: The waste station currently located in the “Bowling Alley” (the walkway in between the 624 Walker Ave building and 620/622 Walker Ave buildings) will be moved back to its original spot next to or behind the trash enclosure.

Pedestrian Door & Keypad Lock

    • For now, the pedestrian door will remain propped open and the keypad’s auto-locking function has been temporarily disabled. Please do not attempt to fidget with this lock, open the screen, or press any buttons.

    • If for some reason the door is closed and locked, please contact your property owner so the board can solve the issue in a timely manner.

Reminders

  1. Recyclables

    • Do not bag recyclables into plastic trash bags (paper bags are a great alternative if you aren’t dumping your recyclables directly into the bins)

    • Break down boxes – especially for the upcoming holidays!

    • No glass

  2. General Bin Usage

    • If one bin is full or nearing fullness, please locate another bin to dispose your trash into (the cans in the middle/back of the enclosure are likely to be less filled) – this helps with general cleanliness (lids not closing all the way, overflowing bins) and helps those who have more trouble accessing harder-to-reach bins. We thank you in advance!

  3. Hazardous waste

    • Please drop off hazardous waste (such as un-emptied paint buckets) at a site such as ECOFLO, located at 2750 Patterson St, Greensboro, NC 27407. If you need help deciphering between regular bulk waste and hazardous waste, the GSO Collects website/app will easily tell you!

Current Pickup Schedule

  • Current Schedule:

    • Trash Pickup: every Friday 7am - 9am

    • Recycle Pickup: every other Friday 7am - 9am (Dec 26, Jan 9, etc)

  • Access to Pickup Schedule:

    • GSO Collects Website

    • GSO Collects App (accessed through a QR code using the above link, or the App Store)

    • Enter your street address or the trash enclosure’s address at 621-T Walker Ave, and the pickup schedule will populate. These resources not only allow you to set reminders for trash pickup, but also to easily learn about proper waste disposal (such as what is recyclable and what isn’t – very useful!)

Reach out to your property owner in case you see something in need of attention, so that they can contact the board. Additionally, please share this information with other residents who may not have easy access to the website or may be unaware of these updates and reminders. We appreciate your cooperation with this project as it developed over the past year, and continues to do so based on the needs of our community!
